ABB S800 I/O Series

The ABB S800 I/O Series offers a modular, distributed I/O solution over PROFIBUS and Advant Fieldbus 100 (AF100), providing flexible communication with ABB drives. It supports both PROFIBUS-DP and PROFIBUS-DPV1 networks, ensuring versatility for various industrial applications.

S800 I/O Station Configuration

  • Base Cluster:
    Includes 1 (or 2 for redundancy) Fieldbus Communication Interface (FCI) and up to 12 I/O modules (or 6 pairs for redundancy).

  • I/O Cluster:
    Contains 1 optical ModuleBus modem and up to 12 I/O modules for modular expansion.

I/O Modules

The S800 I/O system offers various I/O modules, including analog, digital, RTD, and TC interfaces. Modules typically range from 2 to 16 channels, depending on type and rating. All modules are supervised for status checks during startup and operation.

  • Digital I/O Modules:
    Feature galvanic isolation and LED indicators for channel status, along with error status for output modules and Intrinsic Safety interfaces.

  • Field Power Monitoring:
    Input modules monitor field power, and a loss of power triggers a warning status and error on the channel.

Communication Interfaces

  • PROFIBUS:
    Connects directly to PROFIBUS-DP or PROFIBUS-DPV1 networks, functioning as a slave on the network.

  • ModuleBus:
    Handles internal communication between clusters and I/O modules for seamless data flow.
