Strategic Alliance for Better Operational Efficiency

Sumitomo Rubber Industries, one of the key players in the tire manufacturing industry, has undertaken a major digital transformation. The company has selected Rockwell Automation, a well-known expert in industrial automation and digital transformation, to standardize its global manufacturing operations. This strategic alliance is aimed at streamlining production workflows to increase efficiency and drive growth.

Tapping Technology to Solve Industry Challenges

Sumitomo Rubber is taking proactive steps to address these industry challenges, including rising material costs and labor shortages. It has begun to adopt advanced digital technologies to simplify processes and increase productivity. Among these will be the implementation of Rockwell's FactoryTalk ProductionCentre, a robust manufacturing execution system (MES) platform that will be instrumental in realizing these objectives.

A Global Quest for Standardized Excellence

First among these will be the digital transformation of Sumitomo Rubber's Shirakawa facility in Japan. Thereafter, the solution will be rolled out to other manufacturing sites worldwide. This global project will have major benefits regarding standardized production processes and will integrate data on operations much better.

A Single Vision for the Future

Kenji Saito, Executive Officer and General Manager of Sumitomo Rubber's tire manufacturing division, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the collaboration with Rockwell Automation. He underscored the company's dedication to harnessing digital technologies to stimulate growth and adapt to changing market conditions.

James Glasson, Vice President of Global Industry Auto, Tire, and Advanced Mobility at Rockwell Automation, said, "FactoryTalk ProductionCentre is designed to help optimize tire manufacturing processes. Seamless integration with the existing systems, along with a focus on productivity, quality, and compliance, makes this solution an ideal fit for Sumitomo Rubber's needs."
