Main Processor Modules Overview
A Tricon chassis houses three Main Processor (MP) Modules, each serving one channel (or leg) of the controller. Each processor independently communicates with its I/O subsystem and executes the control program. The three MP Modules compare data and the control program at regular intervals. Each Main Processor operates autonomously, with no shared clocks, power regulators, or circuitry. The specifications for each MP are listed in their respective specifications tables.
TriBus System
The TriBus is a high-speed proprietary bus system that provides several key functions:
- Interprocessor communications
- Hardware majority voting of all digital input data
- Comparison of control program variables
TriBus uses a fully isolated, serial communication channel. Its operation speeds vary based on the MP model and chassis:
- Model 3006 and Model 3007 MPs: 4 Mbps
- Model 3008 MPs or Model 3009 MPs (in the Model 8110 Main Chassis): 25 Mbps
- Model 3009 MPs (in the Model 8120E Enhanced Performance Main Chassis): 1000 Mbps
A direct memory access (DMA) controller manages synchronization, transfer, voting, and data correction independently of the control program or executive software.
